Individual Country Marketshare
It is important for growers to know where they should grown their grapes. It is most likely the wine is being made where it is most suitable for wine to be made; the country with the largest share of the popular wine market is doing something right when it comes to how they are growing their grapes. It is important to look at each country's share of the market through this pie chart.
From the initial pie chart, it is clear that the United States grows the largest share of wine grapes. The US grows 44.9% while the next lergest country (France) grows only 14.7%. While this is true of the wine market in general, does it hold true on a more granular level?
Individual Country Marketshare by Variety
In order to get a better picture of the market, it is important to take a closer look at a particular market. The Pinot Noir or Chardonnary market for example. A wine grower looking to grow a particular type of grape would want to get a better picture of their market by sectioning the results shown above into more specific pie charts.
On a more granular level, the US is still the largest grower but it shows where other countries do better or worse. For example, while France grows only 14.7% of the total wine grapes they rise to 20.5% when observing their growing for just Chardonnay. This is an important conclusion for a French grower; there must be some reason that only 12.4% of the Pinot Noir grapes are grown in France so they would benefit more to focus on growing Chardonnay grapes.
Note: For these pie charts, we used only the top ten countries in an effort to make the chart more readable. This did not alter the results enough to warrent fitting all countries on the chart.
